Abstract
The number of persons aged 65 and over in the Republic of Korea exceeds 6.4 million and is expected to comprise
20.8% of the population by 2026. Their dental needs and their expectations for dental health will also continue to
increase. The number of elderly patients to visit the dental office will be increased so dentist should know some special
considerations about them. Dental treatments including restoration and periodontal procedures could give adverse effects
on the pulp, periradicular, and surrounding tissues. The combination of an increase in pathosis and dental needs coupled
with greater expectations has resulted in more endodontic procedures among these aging patients. There are some
differences from younger pulp by aging, but there are no reasons to do not root canal treatment. Microscope and
adequate illumination could help the dentist when looking the canal orifice, making the Glide path will give a decreasing
rate of file-separation and Electronic apex locator should be used for determining the accurate working length. Dentist
should treat the elder patients with dignity and respect, pay attention and focus on their needs and expectations.
